The National Cadet Corps has launched a Cyber Security Capacity Building Programme with the National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology to train cadets in cyber awareness, digital hygiene and practical cyber defence. A memorandum of understanding has been signed to roll out the initiative in two stages. The programme aims to build a pool of trained NCC cyber cadets who can promote safe digital practices and support cyber security awareness at the grassroots level.
Two-Stage Training Model
The first stage is a 15-hour online Cyber Security Awareness Programme. It will cover digital literacy, safe internet use, cyber hygiene and common cyber threats. This module will be open to all enrolled NCC cadets across the country. It will be delivered through the NIELIT Digital University platform.
Advanced Cyber Defender Course
The second stage is a 60-hour offline Cyber Defender Programme. It will be offered to selected cadets who clear a merit-based screening process. This stage will include hands-on training, practical exposure to cyber security tools and real-life simulations. The aim is to help cadets identify, assess and respond to cyber threats more effectively.
Institutional Collaboration and National Goals
The programme was formalised in the presence of the Director General of NCC, Lt Gen Virendra Vats, and the Director General of NIELIT, Dr Madan Mohan Tripathi. The initiative supports the broader goals of Digital India and the National Skills Qualification Framework. It also reflects the growing importance of cyber resilience in youth training and national preparedness.
Significance for Cadet Training
The initiative is expected to strengthen digital discipline among young cadets. It will also create a trained cadre that can help spread cyber awareness in schools, colleges and local communities. The programme adds a modern skill dimension to NCC training and links youth development with national cyber security needs.
