India Prepares for Asian Games 2026

India has stepped up its preparations for the Asian Games 2026, which will be held in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, from 19 September to 4 October 2026. A high-level review was held in New Delhi to assess readiness, athlete support systems and coordination among stakeholders. More than 700 Indian athletes are expected to participate across over 40 sports disciplines.

Preparation Review

The review focused on India’s overall planning for the continental event. The aim is to ensure that athletes receive structured preparation well in advance of the Games. Timely coordination between sports bodies, coaches and support staff was brought into light as essential for strong performance.

Athlete Support Measures

The government reiterated its commitment to athlete welfare and high performance. Support will include:

  • Training and sports science assistance.
  • Logistics and travel support.
  • Competition kit support.
  • Food and nutrition support.
  • Medical care and recovery facilities.

Participation Across Sports

India is expected to field a large contingent in multiple disciplines. The scale of participation reflects the country’s growing focus on international multi-sport events. The emphasis is on preparing athletes without distractions so they can perform at their best.

The Asian Games are a key platform for measuring sporting progress in Asia. For India, strong planning, support systems and early preparation are seen as crucial for achieving better results and setting new benchmarks in future editions.
