Composition of export basket

Shrimp species

  • Penaeus monodon: Black tiger shrimp; cultured in traditional and semi‑intensive systems.

  • United States: 2,79,193 MT; US$2,328.74 million; frozen shrimp 93.55% share; imports from India down 14.22% in US$.
  • China: 4,90,369 MT; US$1,611.32 million — largest by quantity.
  • European Union: 2,97,518 MT; US$1,592.09 million.
  • Southeast Asia: 4,51,756 MT; US$1,348.97 million.
  • Japan: 1,05,228 MT; US$452.91 million.
  • Middle East: 76,743 MT; US$283.00 million.

Ports and logistics

  • Visakhapatnam: 3.28 lakh tonnes; ₹20,217 crore (27.42% of export value).
  • JNPT: >3.1 lakh tonnes; ₹8,717 crore.
  • Kochi: 1.79 lakh tonnes; ₹7,285 crore.
  • Kolkata & Chennai: 1.07 lakh tonnes (₹5,913 crore) and 1.10 lakh tonnes (₹5,411 crore) respectively.
  • Top five gateways: Handled ~64% of seafood export value.
