The Fund is a major India-backed multilateral initiative that supports sustainable development projects in the Global South. It works through the United Nations system and focuses on country-owned, demand-driven and transformational projects.

India-UN Development Partnership Fund

The Fund was established in 2017 with support from the Government of India. It has a corpus of $150 million. It is implemented in collaboration with UN agencies and partnering governments. The Fund aims to promote shared prosperity and support progress towards the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Key Objectives

  • The Fund supports developing countries, especially least developed countries and small island developing States.
  • It backs projects that are Southern-owned and led.
  • It focuses on sustainable development, capacity building and practical development outcomes.
  • It operates through multilateral cooperation with the UN system.

Commonwealth Window

The Fund also includes a Commonwealth Window. This mechanism is designed to accelerate the Sustainable Development Goals in Commonwealth countries. The window promotes technical cooperation, shared learning and development partnerships among countries with common institutional and historical links.

Exam Relevance
