The Responsible Nations Index will be launched on 19 January in collaboration with Jawaharlal Nehru University, the Indian Institute of Management Mumbai and the Dr Ambedkar International Centre. The index aims to assess how nations perform not only in economic terms, but also in social, environmental and global responsibility. It covers 154 countries and uses transparent, globally sourced data for comparison.
What the Index Measures
The index is built on three core dimensions. These are internal responsibility, environmental responsibility and external responsibility. Together, they provide a broader view of national performance beyond conventional development indicators.
Internal Responsibility
Internal responsibility focuses on the dignity, justice and well-being of citizens. It reflects how a state supports social equity, public welfare and inclusive governance. This dimension is linked to the quality of life within a country.
Environmental and External Responsibility
Environmental responsibility examines stewardship of natural resources and climate action. It marks how nations manage ecological sustainability and respond to climate challenges. External responsibility measures a countryโs contribution to peace, cooperation and global stability. It reflects the role of states in international relations and collective security.
Coverage and Significance
The index includes 154 countries and relies on transparent data sources to ensure credibility and comparability. Such an index may be useful for policy analysis, global benchmarking and academic research. It also adds a normative framework to discussions on responsible state behaviour in the 21st century.
