- Littering fine: Rs 5,000 for littering in public places.

- Entry‑point checks: Random inspections at Leh Airport and other entry points for prohibited items.
- Evidence methods: Surprise inspections, videography, photography, CCTV footage and other electronic evidence may be used to initiate action.
IASPOINT Booster Facts
- Legal basis: UT orders operate alongside Environment (Protection) Act, 1986 and the Plastic Waste Management Rules, 2016 (as amended).
- Delegation: States/UTs can notify local lists and phase‑out schedules under the 2016 Rules.
- Geography: Ladakh is a high‑altitude cold desert where low temperatures slow biodegradation of plastics.
- Operational note: Tourist footfall increases single‑use plastic inflow via transport hubs, necessitating entry‑point surveillance.
