The National Institute of Sowa Rigpa, Leh, recently hosted a Common Yoga Protocol (CYP) session under the Mission LiFE initiative to promote eco-friendly habits ahead of World Environment Day 2026. This event bridged ancient wellness traditions with modern environmental sustainability, emphasizing the link between individual health and planetary well-being.

Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment)

  • Genesis: Launched by India at COP26 (2021) in Glasgow.
  • Objective: Shifts climate action from macro-policy to individual mass movement.
  • Strategy: Three-pronged approach involving Demand Modification, Supply Modification, and Policy Change.
  • Focus Areas: Energy/water saving, plastic reduction, sustainable food, waste management, healthy lifestyles, and e-waste management.
  • Implementation: Led by NITI Aayog and the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC).
  • Pro-Planet People (P3): Aims to build a global network of individuals committed to sustainable ecological values.

Common Yoga Protocol (CYP)

  • Designed by: Ministry of Ayush; a 45-minute structured sequence for holistic health.
  • Components: Includes Sadilaja (loosening), Yogasanas, Pranayama, and Dhyana (meditation).
  • Sustainability Link: Promotes Aparigraha (non-possessiveness) and Ahimsa (non-violence) to curb consumerism and ecological harm.
