India at CSW-70 in New York

India will participate in the 70th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW-70) at the United Nations Headquarters in New York from 9 to 12 March 2026. The session is a major global platform on gender equality and women’s empowerment. India’s engagement will focus on women-led development, access to justice, and the safety and dignity of women and girls.

India’s Representation at CSW-70

Minister of State for Women and Child Development Smt. Savitri Thakur will lead India’s delegation. She will deliver India’s national intervention during the General Discussion. She will also speak at the High-Level Meeting on violence against women and girls. Her participation reflects India’s diplomatic and policy commitment to gender-focused international cooperation.

Key Themes of the Session

The priority theme of CSW-70 is ensuring and strengthening access to justice for all women and girls. It covers inclusive and equitable legal systems, elimination of discriminatory laws and practices, and removal of structural barriers.

  • The review theme will examine women’s full and effective participation in public life.
  • It will also assess decision-making roles for women.
  • Another focus is the elimination of violence against women and girls.

India’s Policy Priorities

India will show initiatives linked to women-led development. The emphasis will be on strengthening access to justice and improving protection mechanisms. The delegation is expected to underline efforts that support empowerment, equality, and social inclusion for women and girls.

IBSA Fund and South-South Cooperation

The Minister will also attend a side event on women-led development and South-South cooperation. The event will present success stories from the IBSA Fund, which supports development projects under the India-Brazil-South Africa partnership. The focus will be on inclusive development and practical cooperation across the Global South.
