India has achieved its highest-ever annual solar capacity addition of around 45 gigawatts in the financial year 2025-26. The milestone marks a major step in the country’s renewable energy expansion and reflects the growing role of solar power in India’s energy mix. The achievement also comes alongside a record monthly installation figure, showing strong momentum in clean energy deployment.
Record Annual Solar Expansion
India added around 45 GW of solar capacity in 2025-26, the highest annual addition so far. This indicates rapid scaling of solar infrastructure across the country. The expansion supports India’s broader goals of energy security, reduced fossil fuel dependence and sustainable development.
Top-Contributing States
- Rajasthan, Gujarat and Maharashtra led the annual solar growth.
- In the monthly performance, Rajasthan, Gujarat and Tamil Nadu were the leading contributors.
- These states continue to play a central role in India’s renewable energy transition.
Record Monthly Installation
India also recorded 6.65 GW of solar capacity addition in March 2026, the highest-ever solar installation in a single month. This monthly peak marks the accelerating pace of project commissioning and the increasing capacity of the sector to deliver large-scale additions within short periods.
SECI Dividend Transfer
Solar Energy Corporation of India Limited transferred a dividend cheque of ₹115 crore to the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy. The payment reflects the financial contribution of public sector renewable energy institutions to the government. It also underlines the growing institutional support behind India’s clean energy push.
