New Delhi will host the first International Big Cat Alliance Summit on 1-2 June 2026, with technical sessions scheduled up to 3 June 2026. The summit will focus on seven big cat species: lion, tiger, leopard, snow leopard, cheetah, jaguar and puma.
International Big Cat Alliance
The International Big Cat Alliance is an intergovernmental alliance launched in 2023 under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. It covers cooperation on the conservation of seven big cat species across member and observer countries.
Summit Theme and Participation
The summit theme is “Save Big Cats, Save Humanity, Save Ecosystem”. Heads of 25 member countries and four observer countries are expected to attend, along with more than 400 stakeholders from policy, science and finance sectors.
Delhi Declaration
The summit will adopt the Delhi Declaration, which will be the first global declaration on big cat conservation. The declaration will focus on transboundary cooperation and a landscape-based approach to conservation.
Associated Events
Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav launched the summit’s official website and logo on 6 May 2026. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to inaugurate the summit, and the Global Big Cats Photography Competition 2026 winners will be felicitated on 2 June 2026. The summit will also include an exhibition on tribal art, films, virtual reality installations and conservation practices from India. The International Big Cat Alliance was created as a first-of-its-kind intergovernmental platform for big cat conservation.
