Telangana’s Drug Control Administration has issued a stop-use notice for a batch of Almont-Kid Syrup after laboratory testing found contamination with toxic Ethylene Glycol. The medicine is used in children to relieve allergy symptoms such as runny nose, sneezing, itching, swelling and nasal congestion. The alert follows testing at the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization’s East Zone laboratory in Kolkata.
Contaminated Batch Identified
The affected product is batch number AL-24002, manufactured in January 2025 by Tridus Remedies of Vaishali, Bihar. The presence of Ethylene Glycol is a serious safety concern because the chemical is highly toxic and has been linked to severe poisoning incidents in cough and syrup medicines. The batch has been flagged for immediate withdrawal from circulation.
Statewide Freeze Order
The Drug Control Administration has directed all Drugs Inspectors and Assistant Directors across Telangana to alert retailers, wholesalers, distributors and hospitals. They have been asked to freeze any available stock of the batch and ensure that it is neither dispensed nor sold. The notice is part of the state’s wider drug safety enforcement system.
Public Advisory and Testing Norms
The public has been advised to stop using the syrup immediately if it is in possession and to report it to the nearest Drugs Control Authority. Telangana has also mandated testing for Diethylene Glycol and Ethylene Glycol in all syrups, reflecting stricter quality-control measures for liquid medicines. A toll-free helpline, 1800-599-6969, has been provided for reporting, though it operates only on working days from 10:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
