The 6th ASEAN–India Digital Ministers’ Meeting (ADGMIN) was held virtually, reaffirming the commitment of India and ASEAN Member States to deepen cooperation in the digital domain. The meeting focused on digital inclusion, regional integration, and practical collaboration in emerging technologies, digital public infrastructure, cybersecurity, and capacity building.
Key Outcomes of the Meeting
- The meeting reviewed progress under the ASEAN-India 2025 Digital Work Plan.
- It welcomed the ASEAN-India Digital Work Plan for 2026.
- It also noted the operationalisation of the ASEAN-India Fund for Digital Future.
- The forum reaffirmed support for an open, secure, inclusive, and innovation-driven digital ecosystem.
ASEAN-India Digital Cooperation Agenda
The meeting acknowledged the ASEAN–India Joint Statement on Advancing Digital Transformation adopted at the 21st ASEAN-India Summit in 2024. The statement covers Digital Public Infrastructure, Financial Technology, Cybersecurity, Artificial Intelligence, capacity building, knowledge sharing, and sustainable financing. The 2026 work plan includes ICT training programmes, the India-ASEAN Regulators’ Conference, and deployment of telecom ICT solutions.
India’s Digital Experience Shared
India brought into light its rapid digital transformation, including near-universal 4G coverage, the world’s fastest 5G rollout, and rural broadband expansion through BharatNet. It also showcased Digital Public Infrastructure platforms such as Aadhaar, UPI, and DigiLocker. These systems were presented as models for inclusive service delivery, financial access, and governance efficiency.
AI, Cybersecurity and Future Cooperation
India also underlined the role of Artificial Intelligence in future digital growth. It referred to the IndiaAI Mission, with emphasis on Safe and Trusted AI. India expressed readiness to work with ASEAN on AI capacity building, standards development, and practical use cases. It also offered cooperation on telecom user protection and fraud prevention through the Sanchar Saathi initiative.
