National AI Literacy Programme Launched

India marked National Youth Day 2026 by denoting a new national push to build AI literacy among citizens, especially the youth. The National AI Literacy Programme and its flagship course, YUVA AI FOR ALL, were launched in Jaipur at the Rajasthan Regional AI Impact Summit. The initiative seeks to make basic artificial intelligence knowledge a core life skill and support India’s broader digital and development goals.

Programme Objective

The programme aims to democratise access to AI learning and prepare citizens for an AI-driven economy. It aligns with the vision of Viksit Bharat, Digital Public Infrastructure, and responsible adoption of emerging technologies. The focus is on inclusive learning, practical understanding, and ethical use of AI.

YUVA AI FOR ALL Course

  • The course is a foundational AI module for beginners.
  • It takes a little over four hours to complete.
  • No prior technical background is required.
  • It covers AI basics, how the technology works, and its use in learning, creating, thinking, and planning.
  • It also includes AI ethics and the future of artificial intelligence.

Access, Languages and Certification

The course is free of cost and will be available in 11 languages – Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil and Telugu. It will be hosted on platforms such as FutureSkills Prime, iGOT Karmayogi, DIKSHA and other ed-tech portals. Learners who complete the course will receive an official Government of India certificate.

Significance for Youth and Economy

The initiative is designed to build a nationwide movement of collective AI learning. It is expected to help students, young professionals and small enterprises use AI more effectively in daily work. The programme also supports responsible innovation, wider digital inclusion and India’s long-term readiness for technology-led growth.
