Odisha has launched a five-year scheme, Aame Padhiba Aama Bhasare, along with a 100-day campaign to prevent child marriage and a pilot project to address teenage pregnancy and support teenage mothers. The initiatives aim to strengthen women and child welfare, expand early education in tribal languages, and improve community-level protection systems.
Mother Tongue Early Childhood Education
The new scheme will provide early childhood education to children aged 3 to 6 years in their mother tongue, in line with the National Education Policy, 2020. In the first phase, it will be implemented in Munda, Kui, Saura, Kuvi, Gondi and Koya languages.
Districts Covered in First Phase
The scheme will begin in six districts:
- Keonjhar
- Kandhamal
- Gajapati
- Rayagada
- Nabarangpur
- Malkangiri
Anganwadi workers will receive language-specific training, educational materials and audio-visual content to support classroom delivery.
Child Marriage Prevention Drive
The 100-day campaign focuses on strengthening girl child education, awareness and safety. It will involve community participation, youth leadership, ASHA workers, anganwadi workers and institutional platforms. The campaign will use cycle rallies, youth conferences, human chains, and school and college-based early warning systems.
Teenage Pregnancy and Womenβs Welfare
The pilot project seeks to prevent teenage pregnancy and support teenage mothers through targeted intervention. The government has linked these measures to broader women empowerment goals and plans to make anganwadis more attractive and child-friendly.
