Tri-Services Veterans Day Parade in Mumbai

Mumbai hosted the fifth edition of the Tri-Services Veterans Day parade at Marine Drive ahead of Veterans Day. The event brought together more than 500 veterans, including gallantry award winners and octogenarians. It brought into light public recognition of the service and sacrifices of India’s military veterans.

Event at Marine Drive

The parade was held between 8 AM and 11 AM at Marine Drive. Vice Admiral Krishna Swaminathan, AVSM, VSM, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Western Naval Command, flagged off the event as chief guest. Senior officers from the Army, Navy and Air Force, along with other dignitaries, attended the occasion.

Unique City-Level Observance

Mumbai remains the only city in India to host a city-level parade for Veterans Day. The event was organised by the Navy Foundation Mumbai Chapter with support from Headquarters Western Naval Command. The parade served as a ceremonial tribute to veterans from the three services.

Significance of Veterans Day

Tri-Services Veterans Day commemorates the retirement of Field Marshal K. M. Cariappa, the first Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army after Independence. He retired on 14 January 1953. The day honours the contribution of military veterans to national security and the armed forces’ legacy.
